APPLICATION OF FEP, UPE, AND EPDM IN CHEMICAL HOSES

Post time: May-08-2024

As the world's industrial development continues to deepen, our demands in the chemical field also continue to increase. We need to convey these chemicals through rubber hoses with chemical resistance in production. So, among these chemical hoses, how should we choose the product that suits us?

For chemical hoses, we generally use EPDM, FEP, and UPE as the inner tube materials. What are the differences between these materials?

Firstly, we must understand that these chemical hoses all have a certain degree of chemical resistance, but the range of corrosion resistance they can provide is different.

Firstly, FEP, we have detailed the characteristics of FEP material in this article:  WHAT IS FEP AND HOW ABOUT ITS PROPERTIES?  In summary, FEP material has excellent chemical resistance, has inert chemical characteristics, and also has good heat resistance. At the same time, FEP is generally transparent and colorless. If you are not sure which chemical will be used for transmission, purchasing a chemical hose with an FEP inner tube is the best choice. It hardly reacts with any chemicals and can be used normally for a long time within a range of +200°C. We have related products: FEP RUBBER HOSE WITH CHEMICAL RESISTANT BUILD-IN CONDUCTIVE WIRE FOR ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES.

Secondly, UPE material, this is an ultra-high molecular weight polymer, which has very good wear resistance, impact resistance, and a low coefficient of friction. It has good chemical corrosion resistance. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is stable in concentrated hydrochloric acid at 80°C, and it is also stable in less than 20% nitric acid, less than 75% sulfuric acid. It is also stable to water and liquid detergents. It can also withstand low temperatures. If the chemicals you need to transport require transmission at extremely low temperatures, you can choose our UPE inner tube chemical hose: UPE SUCTION AND DISCHARGE CHEMICAL HOSE IN HIGH CONCENTRATION CHEMICALS APPLICATION.

Thirdly, EPDM, this is a material we are all very familiar with (I believe users who can read this article are relatively familiar with this material, lol). The application of this material is very extensive because it has good stability. It has excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water vapor resistance, color stability, electrical properties, oil filling, and flow at room temperature. EPDM rubber products can be used for a long time at 120°C, and can be used briefly or intermittently at 150-200°C. However, compared with the two materials mentioned above, its chemical resistance is slightly worse. It has good resistance to various polar chemicals such as alcohols, acids, bases, oxidizers, refrigerants, detergents, animal and vegetable oils, ketones, and fats; but it is less stable in aliphatic and aromatic solvents (such as gasoline, benzene, etc.) and mineral oils. Its performance also decreases under the long-term action of concentrated acids. But if the chemicals you need to transport happen to be the ones we mentioned, you can take a look at our product: EPDM SYNTHETIC RUBBER HIGH QUALITY SUCTION AND DISCHARGE CHEMICAL HOSE WITH SULFURIC RESISTANCE HYDROCHLORIC SODIUM RESISTANCE HYDROXIDE ACID RESISTANCE.

In summary, the use of chemical hoses is becoming more and more widespread, safety, efficiency, and long-term use are all factors we need to consider.
