What Are Industrial Rubber Hoses Made Of?

Post time: 06/08/2024

First of all, we know that the main material of industrial rubber hose is rubber, but it is divided into natural rubber and synthetic rubber.

Natural rubber (NR), used in the market now accounts for 30%-40% of the total use of rubber; according to the different sources and processing methods, natural rubber is mainly divided into the following six kinds:

 1. Standard natural rubber: this is the most common form of natural rubber, widely used in tires, hoses, rubber shoes and other products.

 2. Concentrated natural rubber: rubber obtained by removing water and non-rubber components from natural rubber to concentrate and improve the purity of rubber.

 3. Crepe natural rubber: a kind of processed natural rubber with better elasticity and abrasion resistance.

 4. Granular Rubber: A type of natural rubber in granular form, suitable for certain specific industrial applications.

 5. Latex: an emulsion form of natural rubber, commonly used in the manufacture of gloves, balloons, medical products, etc.

 6. Smoke Sheet Rubber: A processed natural rubber with good strength and abrasion resistance.

Natural rubber has high elasticity, good adhesion, insulation, high abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, etc., but its aging resistance is poor, sensitive to non-polar solvents and more expensive products, so in line with the purpose of cost savings, while in order to improve the rubber products, corrosion resistance, resistance to high and low temperature environment and other properties, so the people through the chemical method of artificial synthesis of synthetic rubber.

Next, we talk about the classification of synthetic rubber. Synthetic rubber can also be divided into two categories, namely, general-purpose rubber and specialty rubber.

General-purpose rubber is a synthetic rubber that can partially or completely replace the use of natural rubber, although its performance and use of the effect of some differences, but because of geographical constraints, the development of very fast, more than natural rubber production and consumption, is the main varieties of synthetic rubber, there are seven major general-purpose rubber: styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), butylbutadiene rubber (BR), nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), chloroprene rubber (CR), Butyl rubber (IIR), ethylene propylene rubber(EPDM)

What are the characteristics of these rubbers? We will introduce the common types of rubber to you one by one.

Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR).

Advantages: low price, good processing performance, good abrasion resistance and wet slip resistance.

Disadvantages: heat resistance and oil resistance is poor.

Application: Usually used in tire tread, hose, rubber shoes, wire and cable. Common water and air hose, sandblasting hose are the main application of styrene-butadiene rubber.

tire

Butadiene rubber (BR).

Advantages: excellent elasticity, good low temperature resistance and abrasion resistance.

Disadvantages: poor tear resistance, processing performance is not as good as SBR.

Applications: mainly used for tires, hoses, tapes, seals, etc..

Rubber Shoes

Chloroprene rubber (CR).

Advantages: good resistance to oil and chemicals, good oxidation resistance.

Disadvantages: high price, poor cold resistance.

Application: the outer rubber of the oil pipe.

Nitrile rubber (NBR).

Advantages: oil resistance, chemical resistance, good abrasion resistance.

Disadvantages: poor low temperature resistance, not applicable to alcohols and ketones solvents.

Applications: oil seals, 0-rings, hoses, seals for fuel tanks and fuel systems. Various types of food pipe, tubing, etc.

nitrile-o-ring

Ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM).

Advantages: excellent aging resistance, good chemical resistance, good low temperature performance.

Disadvantages: oil resistance is not as good as some special rubber, relatively low strength.

Applications: automobile parts (such as seals, door and window seals), building sealing materials. Various types of food hoses, water and gas hoses, steam hoses, chemical hoses, etc.
